JOINING A HEALTH CLUB

I decided to join a health club at the beginning of winter, as I always do, so that I would actually go and work out and not just say “maybe tomorrow.” When I went to sign up, I did not know how many different programs there where to choose from. When I went, the sales associate gave me the hard sell. He instantly started going on about the executive health program and took me around the gym. It included access to the swimming pool, sauna, and a yoga and kickboxing class. He conveniently waited until the end of this carefully memorized sales pitch to tell me the price, which was so far out of my price range I almost could not believe people paid for it. I asked him if there were something more reasonable; say something I could pay month to month. He gave me the “oh, your one of those people” looks as he told me about the basic plan, which was just access to the gym but much easier on my wallet. The few times I actually went to the gym he never acknowledged me, probably still mad he missed a chance for commission. I am sorry to say however, that my little experiment did not work and alas, I am no longer a member of the gym or in shape. Maybe next time I will spend the extra money to drive me into the gym, or maybe I will just be happy with the way I look.
