I just got back from a two month long business trip to Africa; I work for a medical company that is, or was, in the process of researching many new ways of treating various diseases that are most commonly found in Africa. I was told that any expenses that I had would be paid for upon my return. After bankruptcy, I was nervous to spend this much money, but it had to be done.  I spent over three month’s salary on that two month long trip expecting for my company to pay me back upon my return. It would be hard for one to imagine my reaction when I called my boss to inform him that I was back and he told me that the government due to illegal animal testing had closed down the company that I worked for. I didn’t even know that our methods and products were tested on animals. Of course, after bankruptcy, my former employer cannot afford to pay me for my expenses in Africa for at least a few years. I will also not be getting my last two paychecks because technically, I was not working for the company during the last six weeks of my research.
